History
Ispat English Medium School, the only ICSE Institution under SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant was started on 1961 with a modest strength of 27 students, 5 teachers and two class rooms. It was set along the same lines as the Indian Public School (IPS) system. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi since May,1964. It was like dream come true. A long awaited and desired need for an English Medium School at Rourkela was fulfilled. It is one of the very first schools established in Rourkela and the first to have English as the medium of instruction. Admission to it has never been open to the general public, though it is open to children of parents working for SAIL, CISF, CRPF and other Central Government undertakings and REC
From such humble beginning, the school grew in stature and strength under the able guidance of the Principals and the faculty members to be reckoned today as one of the reputed institutions of the state with about fifteen hundred students (boys and girls) hailing from different social background and sixty capable teachers busy shaping the destiny of the students.
In 1982 the Institution embarked upon a new venture and started as a Junior College (ISC +2) with Science Stream. Its academic activities expanded with the new addition of +2 Commerce stream from the Year 2004.
