Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed is the United Nations Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER).

Prior to this appointment of 11 December 2014, Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed was the Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) [2]

He served as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Yemen from 2008 to 2012, and in Syria between 2008 and 2012. Working with the United Nations in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe in the areas of development and humanitarian assistance, Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed has also held several positions with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

He holds a master’s degree in human resources development from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Montpellier (France) and an Advanced Certificate in Economics and Social Policy Analysis from Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (the Netherlands).
