Irreligion in Morocco

In Morocco, it's illegal to be an apostate or covert to another religion. According to Article 220 of the country's penal code, it's a crime that includes "anyone who employs incitements to shake the faith of a Muslim or to convert him to another religion."[1]

In Morocco, atheists and non believers face police persecution or even possibility of death.[2] Kacem El Ghazzali is an example of a Moroccan subject that has announced being an atheist and is known for his unapologetic atheism. His writings stress the importance of freedom of thought which lacks in the Islamic countries.[3][4]
