Ipswitch develops and markets software products and services for businesses worldwide. Headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Ipswitch also has Research & Development centers in Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia, American Fork, Utah, and Madison, Wisconsin, and a European support office in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Ipswitch sells its products directly, as well as through distributors, resellers and OEMs in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific Rim.

History

Roger Greene founded Ipswitch in 1991 with the aim of crafting user-friendly software for small businesses. Roger started the company out of his apartment without any Venture capital funding or bank financing. The company became profitable in its second year. The first product from Ipswitch was a gateway that allowed the Novell Inc. IPX networking protocol to connect with the Internet Protocol.[1]

Acquisitions

In 2010, Ipswitch purchased Dorian Software, which produces system log analysis and compliance software.[2]

Ipswitch was also selling its Telnet VT320 terminal emulation and communications package for PC. The software duplicated virtually all functions of the DEC VT320, VT220, VT102, VT100, and VT52 terminals, allowing to work on UNIX and VMS host systems from PC running Microsoft Windows 16-bit and 32-bit operating systems.[3]

Community Involvement

The company commits 5% of its profits to a variety of community investment programs, designed to support the interests of its employees.[5] Recently, Ipswitch Inc.’s network management division, claimed that the company achieved over 5,000 downloads of its WhatsUp Gold Engineer’s Toolkit in the first month of its release. Through a unique partnership with Trees for Life International, they planted over 5,000 trees, one for each download.[6]
