Invoice2go is a mobile app designed for small business owners that features easy-to-use invoicing, expense tracking and simple reporting tools. Designed in 2002 by Chris Strode, a small business owner himself,[1] the company has since grown to support over 100,000 small business owners worldwide, invoicing more than $10 billion per year.[2] Currently the app features the ability to create an invoice, estimate, or purchase order from any device and instantly sync documents via the cloud to help small business owners stay organized. .[2] It also offers features for receipt / expense tracking, creation of statements, gathering customer signatures electronically and scanning product details onto invoices from barcodes.
History
After a frustrating attempt to find a simple, easy-to-use invoicing solution, founder Chris Strode coded his own on his daily commute to and from work in 2002. As a small business owner, Strode understood the challenges facing other owners and realized that with most other accounting software "ninety percent of the functionality didn’t make any sense," and stated that he "just needed to be able to send an invoice as quickly as possible." [3] In 2009, the app went live on the iTunes app store, and by 2011 was ranked among the top 10 business apps.[1] By September 2013, Invoice2go received a total of $35 million in funding from Accel Partners and Ribbit Capital, a Palo Alto based venture capitalist firm. Included in the expansion plans was the appointment of Greg Waldorf, the former CEO of eHarmony who was the CEO-in-residence of Accel at the time.[2]
As of now, the app ranks as number one for highest grossing business apps in 59 countries on the iOs app store and 9 countries in the Android market. Says Strode, "We had a plan to be the market leading invoicing app in three years and we did it."[2] To accommodate the fast-growing user base and increased capital, the company expanded office space into Palo Alto in 2014. Strode has commented on his company’s growth, stating, "Now, with significant investment on board, we are perfectly placed to make what is already a fantastic product even better." [2]
