INTRACO was incorporated in 1968 by the Singapore government as a trading company to assist in Singapore's early industrialisation including the creation of export markets for locally manufactured products, the promotion of external trade and to source for competitively priced raw materials, commodities and manufactured goods for the domestic market.
History
In December 1972, INTRACO was successfully listed on the Singapore Exchange.[1]
As a result of its long history as a trading company, INTRACO has an established international network of partnerships and alliances. The Group has a strong regional footprint in ASEAN and China where it continues to leverage on its recognised brand name to grow its supplier and customer base. In addition, the Group also has a 40% interest in Tat Hong Intraco Pte Ltd and 41% interest in Dynamic Colours Limited.[2]
In 2012, Oei Hong Leong called off his bid for a 29.89% stake in trading firm Intraco just days after it looked like a done deal. His legal team wrote to lawyers representing Hanwell Holdings, which holds the shares, saying that "the sale and purchase of Intraco shares is off". The letter claimed the deal-breaker was Hanwell's alleged unwillingness to arrange for undertakings by its majority shareholders to vote in favour of the transaction.[3]
In 2013, Intraco tied up with Tat Hong Holdings and prominent Myanmar businessman Aung Moe Kyaw to establish Tat Hong Intraco, a joint venture company in Singapore, to rent and distribute cranes and excavators in Myanmar. Under the deal, the joint venture will have a paid-up capital of US$500,000, with Intraco and Tat Hong each holding a 40% stake and the balance going to Mr Aung.[4]
Business
The Group's focus is on two core business segments:
Trading & Others
Its Trading & Others Segment is involved in the trading of plastics, telecommunications infrastructure and others
Projects
Projects Segment is involved in the supply and installation of niche specialised building-related products.[5]
