Interstate 395 (abbreviated I-395) is a 67-mile-long north–south Interstate Highway that begins at Interstate 95 in East Lyme, Connecticut running northwards through Connecticut's Quiet Corner, and ends at Interstate 90 in Auburn, Massachusetts, where it becomes Interstate 290. The original designation for the freeway was Route 52. Route 52 was slated to become an extension of Interstate 290 before it received the I-395 designation in 1983.[2]
From East Lyme to Plainfield, Connecticut, I-395 is part of the Connecticut Turnpike (the Governor John Davis Lodge Turnpike). From Plainfield to Thompson, Connecticut, I-395 is named the American Ex-Prisoner of War Memorial Highway.
Service plazas
In Connecticut, there are three Service Plazas that provide 24-hour gas stations, restaurants, and convenience stores.
- Montville — MP 8 - Southbound only between exits 79A and 79.
- Plainfield — MP 35 - Northbound and Southbound between exits 89 and 90.
A State Police station is located on the northbound side of the highway in Montville in what used to be another Service Plaza.
Future
In May 2013, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that starting in the spring of 2014, exits along I-395 and Route 2A will be renumbered from the current sequential numbering system to a distance-based scheme to conform with federal exit numbering standards. During the transition, old exit numbers will be posted alongside the new exit number through 2017.[3]
Exit list
Exit numbers will be converted to mileage-based numbers in early 2015. Along with Connecticut Route 2A, these are Connecticut's initial distance-based exit numbers.[4]
