International Turkish Hope School (also known as I.T.H.S.) is an English medium private school in Bangladesh.

History

The International Turkish Hope School (also known as I.T.H.S.) was established in Dhaka in 1996. The President of Turkey, Süleyman Demirel, attended the official inauguration of the school in March 1997.[1]

The school started with one branch and a small number of students; however, the number of students quickly increased. Today, there are two preschools, two junior, one senior and one GCE sections in Gulshan and Uttara and also one preschool in Chittagong.

I.T.H.S. began construction of a purpose-built campus on two acres of land, located in Uttara Sector 4, in June 2002. Construction was finished in September 2005. Facilities include extensive playground, football and cricket field, basketball court, conference hall, library, computer and science lab. There is a hostel equipped with a study room, computer room, satellite TV, table-tennis table and other facilities.[2]

Curriculum

I.T.H.S. is an English medium school having classes from Playgroup to A-level standard. The school follows the International GCSE and GCE system and prepares the students for O-level and A-level examinations. The students are able to understand English from an early age and speak fluently. Moral education starts at primary level.[3]

Staff

Principal

The Principal of International Turkish Hope School is Bedrettin Suata. He is also the Chairman of the Management Committee.[4] He was preceded by Bayram Saatci, who held the position from 1998 to 2012.[5]

Head of Section

Each section is run by a Head of Section who deals with all academic and administrative issues relating to that section.[6]

Teachers

The teaching staff consists of experienced and qualified Bangladeshi, Turkish and other foreign teachers.[7]

In addition to their work within school hours, teachers run numerous after-school clubs and other activities, including competitions in art, poetry, drama and singing, Kids Show, and Sports Day.

Students

There are about 1500 students. 17% of the students are from countries outside Bangladesh, including Malaysia, Canada, Philippines, USA, England, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka and Turkey.[1]

Participation in international events

The school participated in the International Computer Project Olympiad which was held in Turkmenistan on 26 April 2004. The student Talat Minhaz Bin Amin, representing Bangladesh, attained silver medal among 29 participating countries.

The school participated in the 26th International Children's Festival in April 2004, and in the 27th International Children's Festival in April 2005.

A debating team from I.T.H.S. participated successfully in the 25th World Universities and Colleges Debate Championship held in Malaysia in January 2005, and was entered for in the 17th World Schools Debating Championship held in Canada in February 2006.

O- and A-level results

The school reported 97% success rate in O-level and 98% in A-level in 2009.[8]

Helping the needy

International Turkish Hope School known for providing humanitarian aid to needy people. This has included Eid-gifts for needy children, relief materials for flood-affected people, stationery items for poor students, meat distribution during Eid al-Azha, iftar packs for the needy, and sending poor but talented students abroad for higher studies on full scholarship. At present about 100 students are receiving full free scholarship, including tuition fees, accommodation, food, clothes and other related expenses. Another 200 students are also exempted from tuition fees according to their financial ability.[1]

ITHS publications

The Hope School publishes Physics, Chemistry, Math, Biology and Language books, Computer Studies materials, magazines, brochures and diaries.[9]
