International Society for Heart Research
The International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) is an organization that promotes the discovery and dissemination knowledge in cardiovascular sciences on a worldwide basis. It concentrates on the metabolism of the heart. The Society was founded in 1968 as an "International Study Group for Research in Cardiac Metabolism". In 1976 it adopted the name "International Society for Heart Research". The ISHR organizes worldwide congresses every 2 to 3 years, and has several regional sections, which organize their own meetings.
Notable presidents of the society included Richard Bing (founder), Lionel H. Opie, and Roberto Bolli.
