The International Journal of Maritime History is an academic journal that focuses on maritime history, including areas such as merchant marine, shipbuilding, coastal communities, and maritime societies. The European Science Foundation's European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH) ranks it as a "Class One" journal.[1][2]
The journal was established in 1989 based at Memorial University of Newfoundland where it was published in conjunction with the International Maritime Economic History Association.[3] Since 2013/14 it has been published by Sage Publications. It also publishes monographs titled Research in Maritime History.
The founding editor-in-chief was Lewis R. 'Skip' Fischer, who was succeeded by David Starkey in 2013.
