International Court of Justice judges by-election, 2012

The 2012 International Court of Justice by-election was held on 27 April 2012 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City during the tenure of the Sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly. The by-election was caused by the resignation of Awn Shawkat Al-Khasawneh, who had been appointed prime minister of Jordan in October, 2011. The election will only be for the remainder of his term until 5 February 2018. Whoever is elected will be allowed to stand for reelection for another nine-year term.[1]

The nominated candidates for the 2012 election are Dalveer Bhandari of India and Florentino Feliciano of the Philippines.

Bhandari was elected, gaining 122 of 197 votes in the General Assembly and 13 of 15 votes in the Security Council.[2]
