The Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), is a privately funded technical and management school located in the state of West Bengal, India. It was founded in 1989 and is thus the oldest private engineering school in the province.[1]

Location

IEM possesses decentralized academic campuses. Three of the academic campuses and an administrative unit are located in Salt Lake Electronics Complex (Bidhan Nagar), Sector-V, Salt Lake City. They are:

Academics

The undergraduate courses offer B.Tech in engineering fields including Information Technology while the postgraduate courses offer M.Tech. There is a provision for Ph.D in Electronics and Communication Engineering and MSc. in Information Science. The institute offers postgraduate diploma course (Polytechnic) in Management Studies.

Apart from these, the Faculty of Technology offers Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree course. The institute offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level respectively. [3]

Admission

At the undergraduate level, students are primarily admitted on the basis of the ranks in the state-level engineering entrance examination - WBJEE and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).[4] Admission in MBA is conducted through nationwide Common Admission Test.

Ranking

The institute is ranked among the top ten colleges in West Bengal.[5] This institute is ranked no. 1 among private colleges under West Bengal University of Technology.

Research

Research areas include robotics, radio frequency identification, computer programming, and renewable energy. These groups participate in national and international level events, like Kshitij, Techniche, Shaastra and Robocon. The Robotics Group has been involved in a project developed in alliance with the Department of Defence, Government of India, which would enable the user to control a robot or unmanned vehicle over very long distance using CDMA mobile phones.
