Inlet Square Mall is a 425,000-square-foot (39,500 m2) single-level regional shopping center in Murrells Inlet. The key anchors include Belk, Bath & Body Works, Frank Theatres, Stein Mart and Books-A-Million.
After the opening of a Walmart Supercenter in nearby Garden City, Kmart closed in late April 2014.[2] On January 7, 2015, it was announced that the one of the mall's two main anchor stores, J.C. Penney, would be closing in March of the same year.[3] Plans are still in place to open a Planet Fitness location in the mall in February, 2015.[4]
Reconstruction
F + F Development began reconstruction on the mall in 2012 in an attempt to make it similar to the popular outdoor shopping center Broadway at the Beach. The construction caused F + F Development to go into bankruptcy, and Urban Retail Properties purchased the mall in late 2014.
Despite being a once-busy location, Inlet Square Mall has not yet recovered from competition brought by nearby Coastal Grand Mall. Without some major renovations and changes in the form of attractive new businesses, it looks doubtful that the mall will ever fully recover.
