InfoBarrel is a user generated content, revenue-sharing website.[1]

History

InfoBarrel launched in July 2008 as a social platform for writers to publish content to the web and generate revenue from their content. In May 2010, InfoBarrel announced[2] the ability to donate articles to charity, more specifically The Huntington Society of Canada and have since raised over $2,600 for the cause. InfoBarrel is now raising money for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

As of January 2012, InfoBarrel has roughly 95,000 registered members who have published just shy of 100,000 total articles. Infobarrel receives more than 3 million page views per month and is the top 3000 most visited sites in the United States, and top 1500 most visited sites in Canada according to Alexa.[3] In March 2012 InfoBarrel was recognized locally for the site's fundraising efforts for Huntington's Disease.[4]

Structure

InfoBarrel is a social writing platform where writers from around the world come together to create media content. Writers are encouraged to create high quality media content in exchange for viewership and a large percentage of the revenue share generated by their content. Currently, the revenue share model is based upon three programs. These programs include Google AdSense, Chitika and Amazon Associates. 75% of the time the publishers affiliate codes will be displayed and the other 25% the InfoBarrel codes are displayed.

Writers also have the ability to donate their articles to charity. Writers have complete control over whether their articles are going to charity or into their affiliate accounts and can change the status of any individual article at any given time.

Writers on InfoBarrel are encouraged to write through monthly contests and opportunities to increase their individual revenue share by writing on specific topics.
