Indrasish Roy (Bengali: ইন্দ্রাশিস রায়) is a Bengali film and television actor.He first got noticed for playing the role of "Tintin" in mega serial Gaaner Opare.Later he was popularly acclaimed for playing the lead role of "Chandrakiran Chowdhury" the male protagonist of mega serial Adwitiya. He debuted on silver screen with Kaushik Ganguly's Rang Milanti,one of the most successful Bengali film of 2011.[1]
Career
Indrasish Roy started his career as an assistant director of a short film "And There Wasn't Ever After" at 2008.[2] He made his acting debut in television series Champion at 2009 on Akash Bangla where he played the character of an antagonist "Ronnie". At 2010 he got his major break in the famous cult classic Bengali mega serial Gaaner Opare where he played the role of "Tintin".[3] After that, he played the male lead character of Chandrakiran Chowdhury aka "Chand" in Adwitiya at 2011 on Star Jalsa.[4] He also did a small stint in mega serial Subarnalata[5] at 2012 on Zee Bangla where he played the character "Surnirmal".After his stints in television he moved on to the silver screen and has acted in films like Rang Milanti, The Play (film), Hrid Majharey, Aamar Aami,Chotushkone.
Gaaner Opare
Gaaner Oparey, a critically acclaimed Indian (Bengali) television serial was produced by Ideas Creations,the production house of Prosenjit Chatterjee .[6] It aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. It was an attempt to pay tribute to the Indian nobel laureate KabiGuru Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary. The concept and script was initially conceived by famous Indian director and actor Rituparno Ghosh.Debojyoti Mishra (Music Director), and noted personalities from the Bengali film industry like, Dipankar De, Sabyasachi Chakraborty and others like Mimi Chakraborty, Gaurav Chakraborty, Arjun Chakraborty , Anindita Bose were involved with the project.[7]
Indrasish portrayed the character of "Tintin"(Trinanjon Banerjee) in the serial, camera man working for Shohor TV channel.He was well appreciated for his witty,fun filled,energetic performance in the serial.[8]
Adwitiya
Adwitiya,a production by Ideas Creations(Prosenjit Chatterjee) revolved around a young girl who goes to a rural village to chase her dreams and takes up the cudgels of putting this village on the path of progress. Shot on the backdrop of the Sunderbans, this serial holds the potential of standing apart from others. It has been scripted by Anuja Chattopadhyay,Kausik Bhattacharya and directed by Joydeep Mukherjee.[4]
Indrasish played the male lead character Chandrakiran Chowdhury popularly known as "Chand" in the serial along with Sohini Sarkar and Gaurav Chakraborty.He rose to mass popularity and was tremendously appreciated by the audience with his outstanding performance, fetching him an award for Best Couple(along with Sohini Sarkar) at Star Jalsa Paribar Awards 2012.[9]
Rang Milanti
Indrasish made his silver screen debut with the film Rang Milanti, a romantic comedy directed by Kaushik Ganguly, that released in September 2011 to wide critical and commercial acclaim.[10]
He played the character "Tito" in the film, an uber passionate film buff and an aspiring director with ambitious dreams of winning a Palme d'Or & an Oscar in the near future and is in love with an ad-agency employee Kamalika (Ridhima Ghosh).[11] He shared the screen with acclaimed actors like Churni Ganguly, Saswata Chatterjee and others like Gaurav Chakraborty, Gourab Chatterjee, Ridhima Ghosh, Tanaji Dasgupta.[12][13][14]
The Play
Indrasish played the central character "Mainak" in the 2013 Bengali film The Play (film), a non-political mystery murder thriller revolving around the premises of a theater group in Kolkata.[15] The film was scripted and directed by Ranjay Ray Choudhury[16] and was presented by Magic Entertainments.The music was composed by Joy Sarkar.[17]
His role "Mainak" was that of an introvert struggling actor who came to the city of Kolkata and joined a theatre group where his entire life took a whirl after an incidental night.He shared the screen with actors like Rajesh Sharma and Mumtaz Sorcar with others.[18]
Hrid Majharey
Hrid Majharey is a critically acclaimed 2014 Bengali film directed by debutant director Ranjan Ghosh. This film is a tribute to the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare. The plot revolves around a love story that is loosely inspired from certain iconic works of Shakespeare.
Indrasish played the character of "Shubhro" [19] in the film, a charming, lively guy from Kolkata who runs an NGO in the Andaman Islands and is passionate about electronic music. He shared screen space with actors Abir Chatterjee and Raima Sen in the film.[20]
Aamar Aami
Aamar Aami is a 2014 Bengali film directed by debutant director Orko Sinha[21] . This film deals with multiple wishes,desires and dreams of people living in the fast-paced city.The film featured actors like Rahul Banerjee, Biswanath Basu, Arunima Ghosh along with Indrasish Roy[22] and others.
Indrasish played the character "Soumya" in the film,[23] an aspiring young photographer with an engineering background who struggles to get a job in the media industry.
Other ventures
Apart from acting Indrasish is an active participant in Celebrity Cricket League under the team of Bengal Tigers and has performed consistently in the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 series as an all rounder player.[24] Indrasish is passionate about cricket since childhood and has been quoted saying "Getting into the shooting floor was by mistake.He was meant to be a Cricketer."[25]
