Indrahar Pass
Indrahar (इन्द्रहार) Pass is a mountain pass in the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas. Located at 32°17.852′N 76°22.872′E / 32.297533°N 76.381200°ECoordinates: 32°17.852′N 76°22.872′E / 32.297533°N 76.381200°E and an altitude of 4,342 metres (14,245 ft) above mean sea level, near the tourist town of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, Indrahar pass forms the border between Kangra and Chamba districts. It is part of a very popular trekking route from Dharamshala. It attracts substantial tourist traffic during the trekking season between April–October.
Indrahar Pass Trail
The trekking trail to Indrahar pass starts from Galu Devi temple above Dharamkot village near Dharamsala and passes through the popular camping ground of Triund, Ilaqua/Laka Got, and Lahesh Caves. Popular stops are Triund (tents / resthouses) at 2842 metres and Lahesh Caves (camp inside the cave) at 3475 metres.
On the other side of the pass, the camping sites include Chhata caves at 3242 metres and Kuarsi village in Chamba at 2260 metres.
The trek starts from McLeod Ganj and goes like this:
- McLeod Ganj main market (1750m) to Galu Devi temple at Upper Dharamkot (2100m) | 2 km | 1-2 hour walk OR a 45 minute cab ride
- Galu Devi temple (2100m) to Triund (2825m) | 2-3.5 hrs walk (mix of easy and uphill)
- (3 Snack shops en-route; snack shops/camping/resthouses at Triund - no running water/electricity)
- Triund (2825m) to Snowline Cafe | 1 hour uphill walk
- (can camp here too or sleep in the cafe, if you want a head-start next morning to Indrahar!)
- Snowline Cafe to Ilaqua Got (grazing grounds) | 1 hour easy walk (mostly flat/downhill)
- Ilaqua Got to Lahesh Cave (3475m) | 1-2 hours of strenuous uphill climb
- (camping possible inside Lahesh Cave; NO going upwards to Indrahar Pass later than afternoon in any season)
- Lahesh Cave to Indrahar Pass (4300m) | 2–6 hours (depending on fitness and acclimation) of very steep climb
- (cross over towards Chamba from Indrahar or come back to Cave or the same day)
- is a stoppage on the treck en route to the mighty Dhauladhar ranges. However for most of leisure loving people, this 9 km uphill treck ends here since most of the people can enjoy the view from either sides of hill. Little source of drinkable water and local vendors seems selling eatables.
- is another trekking route from adjacent hill originally developed by local Gaddis.At Bhagsunag temple located just around the Bhagsu village, the treck route begins to the famous waterfall. The trekking path is a bit harsh having plants of itch, on the way. A sharp steep uphill climb as directed by stone piles or limestone powder can be seen on a sunny day.
