The Indian 50-rupee banknote (50) is a denomination of Indian currency. It was first introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in 1975. The first 50-rupee notes had the ashoka stambha; this was replaced by a watermark of Mahatma Gandhi in 1996.^[2]

Security features

The security features of the 50-rupee banknote includes a fully embedded security thread that reads 'भारत' (Bharat in the Devanagari script) and 'RBI' alternately. It also includes a latent image of the value of the banknote on the vertical band next to the right hand side of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait. The white field contains a watermark of Mahatma Gandhi that is a mirror image of the main portrait. In addition, the number panel of the banknote is printed in fluorescent and the paper contains embedded fluorescent fibers.
