India national under-17 football team
The India national under-16 football team, also known as India under-16s or India U16(s), represents India in association football at an under-16 age level and is controlled by the All India Football Federation, the governing body for football in India. The current manager is Goutam Ghosh.
Competition history
AFC U-16 Championship
The top regional competition for the India U16s is the AFC U-16 Championship which were started in 1985. India played in the tournament for the first time in 1990 in which the team finished in third in their group of four, only winning one match against Jordan.[1] India then qualified for the tournament again in 1996 in which they finished last in their group which included Iran, Thailand, Bahrain and China PR.[2] The team then went through another six years before qualifying for the 2002 tournament in which India managed to make it to the quarter-finals in which they lost 3–1 to South Korea.[3] India then qualified for the 2004 tournament but could not make it past the group stage finishing third out of four in a group that had Iran, Kuwait and Malaysia.[4] India went on to compete in the 2008 version in which they again finished third in a four team group failing to make the quarter-finals.[5] In 2012 AFC U-16 Championship, India was drawn in group of death including the like of Uzbekistan, Syria, China PR. India showed good performance by losing 1 and 2 draws cannot progress to the knockout stage.[6][7][8] India U16 did not qualified for 2014 AFC U-16 Championship as they finished 2nd in qualification group stage matches.

2011 SAFF U-16 Championships
The India under-16 team is participated in the 2011 SAFF U-16 Championship. India failed to win their first match as they lost 1-0 to rivals Pakistan. In their second match India managed though to make up for that defeat by winning 5-0 against Maldives. Then in the semi-finals India managed to beat Nepal U16 4-2 in the tie breaker to move on to the Final against Pakistan, but lost that match 2-1.
2013 SAFF U-16 Championships
The India under-16 team is participated in the 2013 SAFF U-16 Championship, Nepal. India was drawn in Group B alongside Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India played their first match against Sri Lanka, which India won with scoreline 4-1. Second match was against Bangladesh, by winning this match with full-time score 2-0, India qualified for semi final (as a group topper). India played against Afghanistan in the semi final clash in which India won 4-3 in the tie breaker. India won the final against Nepal 1-0 and were adjudged the winners of the 2013 SAFF U-16 Championship.[9]
