In Case of Adversity (En cas de malheur or Love Is My Profession in the U.S.) is a 1958 French film directed by Claude Autant-Lara, screenplay by Jean Aurenche and Pierre Bost, after a novel by Georges Simenon.
Plot
Maitre André Gobillot (Jean Gabin), a distinguished lawyer in his mid 50s, successfully defends a beautiful young woman, Yvette Maudet (Brigitte Bardot), who has committed a robbery.
In the process, Gobillot falls in love with her, putting his reputation and marriage at risk. However, Maudet is not true to him, and ends up being murdered by her jealous lover Mazzetti (Franco Interlenghi).
