Imonomy is an Israel based advertising solution company that develops semantic based technologies and products for publishers and advertisers.[1] The company's software analyzes text on the websites and matches copyright free images from its database and inserts them with in-image ads alongside content.[2][3]
History
Imonomy was founded in 2012 by Oren Dror and Amit Halawa in Ramat Gan, Israel.[4] The co-founders previously worked at Yedda, a community driven Q&A service acquired by AOL in 2007.[5] After working at Yedda, they realized there is a need for an automated process that can save publisher's resources and time, and help in increasing their web traffic by presenting content with more visually attractive images.[6][7] They started working on a software that scans the text on a webpage, matches the relevant images from its database and display them on the publisher's page.[8][9]
Imonomy initially targeted small sized web publisher and later opened its API for publishers and advertisers to augment its semantic engine and in-image ad interface.[10][1] Through its semantic analysis, the software also recommends the exemplary placement of images and illustrations to drive richer user engagement on a webpage.[11] The company works on a freemium model that shares ad revenue with their publisher.[12]
Funding
The company received $400K in seed funding to further develop its software products and expand its market.[13] The seed round was backed by private Angel investors,[14] including Inon Axel, former CEO of Kasamba, Liron Rose, cofounder of AfterDownload, Joshua Levinberg founder at Gilat Satellite Networks and Tal Shaked a partner at IronSource.[1][15]
