Immingham TMD is a railway Traction Maintenance Depot situated in Immingham, North East Lincolnshire west of Grimsby, England.[1]

History

Originally built by the Great Central Railway in 1912 to service the newly opened Immingham Docks,[2] it was taken over by the LNER and later Eastern Region of British Railways post World War II.

In 1950, it had 120 attached locomotives, which by 1965 with a shed code of 40B, had been reduced to only 27. Locomotive types deployed include LNER Thompson Class B1, LMS Stanier Class 8F, and BR standard class 9F. The shed closed to steam in 1966, one of the last in the Eastern region to do so.[3]

Modern day

Following the splitting up of the former BR Trainload business into three companies in 1994, the depot came under the brief control of "shadow privatisation company" Loadhaul before being amalgamated into English, Welsh & Scottish Railway. The depot code is IM and is a separate entity from Immingham Railfreight Terminal.

As of April 2009, servicing of locomotives no longer takes place at Immingham.
