ImageAXS is a software application for organizing and editing digital photos, originally created by Digital Arts and Sciences Corporation and later acquired by Caere Corporation (later ScanSoft and later Nuance Communications). "ImageAXS" is a blend of the word Image and [sic] Access (AXS).
Native applications for Windows, Mac OS were available. Now unsupported but available for free.
Features
Organization and editing
For organizing photos, ImageAXS has file importing and tracking features, as well as tags and collections for further sorting.
Keywords
Application uses MS Access database to keep track of meta data for each image file.
Searching
Application has basic and advanced search capabilities. It also supports boolean operators for searching. During HTML export some search capability is preserved by creation of static search dataset.
Viewing
Application provides capability of viewing thumbnails grid as well as zooming in out of individual images.
Creation of thumbnail image
The program creates a Collection of digital content files from Source files. The original image (source file) remains where it is located, but program automatically creates a thumbnail preview of the image. The name of the image and type of file is visible. There are options to customize the appearance of the thumbnail and the collection file. The source of the original file is recorded and remembers where it is. One can double click the thumbnail to view the full image without launching another application. Images can be identified with a keyword or up to 100 data fields so that the file can be found readily by complex advanced search functionality.
Portfolios
Using a drag and drop method, one can organize and display images in portfolios, including Web page portfolios. Subsets of records can also be created via drag_and_drop into your custom folders.
Creation of Web pages
ImageAXS automatically creates HTML pages of selected images with a single command-–export to HTML. Visitors to the Web site can click on the thumbnails to see full size images.
e_ZCard Export
e_ZCard is an electronic mini album that combines images and two fields of text in a self extracting executable.
Upgrade Options
ImageAXS is no longer a supported product. As Microsoft releases updated versions of DLL files, the Windows version may cease to function. The Macintosh version is only available for OS 9.
Conversion to ThumbsPlus is one option.
Gallery Systems also offers a special upgrade to EmbARK Cataloguer.
