The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) is the code department[1][2] of the Illinois state government that regulates banks, other financial institutions, real estate agents, insurance firms, and insurance agents, and also oversees the professional qualifications of members of self-regulating professions such as physicians.
It was created in 2004 by an executive order promulgated by Governor Rod Blagojevich. In creating this Department, the Governor consolidated two existing State agencies, the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate.[3]
