Illegal immigration in Bhutan

In the year January 6, 1989, the Bhutanese king proclaimed a policy of “One Nation, One People.” From that day, it seemed that by virtue of a royal edict all Bhutanese would have to dress and speak like Drukpas. Bhutanese citizens of Nepali descent were deemed illegal immigrants.[1]

The Bhutanese government have been criticised for its human rights record in its treatment of Immigrants.[2] The Bhutan government claim they are merly trying to streamline their immigration policy.[3][4]
