History

Ikorodu was founded by Yorubas who settled in the area. The name Ikorodu is a form of Oko Odu, which means "odu (an edible herb) farm."[3] During the 19th century Ikorodu was an important trading post for the Remo kingdom, it achieved this by being situated along the trade route between Lagos and Ibadan.[4]

In August 2007, floods killed six people in Ikorodu and forced the evacuation of more.[5]
