Ikarus 280 is an articulated urban bus produced by bus manufacturer Ikarus from Hungary, in the years of 1971 to 1997. In production was succeeded by Ikarus 435 in 1985.

Construction features

Ikarus 280 is model of Ikarus 200 series. It is made of two rigid sections linked by a pivoting joint. Body is semi-self-supporting with frame and engine with automatic or manual gearbox in the middle. Only second B axle is propulsed, meaning that this articulated bus has puller configuration. Production and operation

Production started in 1971 and ended in 1997.
Currently, number of Ikarus 280 buses is reduced, due to supply of new low-floor buses.
On these buses were also based trolleybuses Ikarus 280 T and buses 281, 282, 283 and 284.
In Prague, Czech Republic were these buses operated from 1977 until 1999, since beginning of 90s were these buses replaced by Karosa B 741 and later by Karosa B 941.
In Bratislava, Slovakia were these buses operated between 1974 and 2008.
Because of its simple and robust construction, this bus is still operated all around the world, for example in Warszawa, Teheran, Istanbul, Havana and Basra.
