Iago Falque Silva (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈjaɣo ˈfalke]; born 4 January 1990) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Genoa, as a left winger.

Club career

FC Barcelona

Born in Vigo, Galicia, Falque began his career with Real Madrid before moving to FC Barcelona in 2001, joining the club's youth ranks. After seven years in the Barcelona youth academy, the young Spaniard was promoted to the FC Barcelona B team for a match. In his single appearance for the club, Falque scored his first professional goal. Following his debut, Falque was involved in a transfer negotiation, regarding heavy interest in the Spanish U-20 international, from Serie A club Juventus.

Juventus

On 30 August 2008, Falque signed a four-year contract with Juventus,[1] and officially was presented on 2 September 2008. He transferred to the Serie A club on a free deal, that included a €2.5m compensation to Barcelona, if certain matches and goals were reached by the player in his stay with the club.[2] On 6 December 2008, he received his first call-up to the club's first team in a match against U.S. Lecce, on the 15th matchday of the Serie A season. On 25 August 2009, Falque was loaned to Serie A side A.S. Bari,[3] where he played for the club's youth team, before returning to Juventus in January 2010, returning to their youth team.

On 29 July 2010, Falque joined Villarreal B on loan with the right of redemption.[4] Falque maintained a starting position for the club, making 36 appearances and scoring 11 goals. Villarreal CF opted not to activate their redemption clause, so, on 30 June 2011, Falque returned to Juventus.

Tottenham Hotspur

On 25 August 2011, Falque joined English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent.[5] He made his debut on 15 September, starting in a 0–0 away draw against PAOK for the season's UEFA Europa League.[6] On 16 January 2012, Tottenham signed Falque permanently,[7] and on 18 July he scored in a preseason 2–0 victory against Stevenage[8]

Southampton (loan)

On 16 January 2012, after signing permanently with Spurs, Falque immediately joined Championship leaders (on that date) Southampton on loan for the remainder of the season.[7][9]

Falque made his Southampton debut seven days later, starting in a 0–2 home loss against Leicester City.[10] However, he failed to make any other appearance with Saints, and subsequently returned to Tottenham in June.

Almería (loan)

On 23 January 2013, Falque joined Almería on loan until the end of the season.[11] He made his debut for the Andalusians on 4 February, but in a 1–2 away loss against Real Madrid Castilla,[12] and scored his first goal on the 24th, in a 4–1 home routing over SD Ponferradina.[13]

Falque was ever-present in the promotion back to the top level, appearing in 22 matches and scoring two times.

Rayo Vallecano (loan)

On 22 August 2013 Falque joined La Liga side Rayo Vallecano, in a season-long loan, with a buyout clause.[14] He made his division debut eight days later, but in a 1–2 home loss against Levante.[15] In February 2014, Falque scored his first goals for Rayo, in a 4-1 win over Málaga: for the first, he "rushed down the right wing, beating two defenders with a turn and a nutmeg before knocking the ball in off the near post", and in the second, "exhibiting the same quick feet and ability to float past defenders as he did in the first".[16]

Genoa

On 1 August 2014, Genoa confirmed the signing of Iago Falque in a deal believed to be worth in the region of €5m.[17]
