Club career

Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Díaz joined CD Lugo's youth setup in 2007, aged 14, after starting it out at Prone Lugo AD.[1] In late 2011 he made his debut as a senior with the former, coming on as a late substitute for Félix Quero in a 2–2 away draw against Rayo Vallecano B for the Segunda División B championship.[2]

Díaz scored his first goal on 4 March of the following year, netting his side's last in a 2–2 home draw against another reserve team, Sporting de Gijón B.[3] He finished the season with 13 games as the Galicians promoted to Segunda División for the second time in their history, and signed a new three-year contract in the summer.[4]

Díaz made his debut as a professional on 18 August 2012, replacing Diego Tonetto in a 1–0 home win against Hércules CF.[5] He netted his first goal in the "silver category" on 17 November, but in a 1–2 home loss to Girona FC.[6]

On 22 March 2014, Díaz scored the first in a 2–0 home win against Recreativo de Huelva, being also the club's 100th goal in the second level.[7] On 20 December he scored a brace in a 6–6 away draw against CD Numancia.[8]
