I Never Said That I Was Brave
I Never Said That I Was Brave is an EP by Philadelphia-based post-hardcore band mewithoutYou, their first-ever recording. It was released on the small Kickstart Audio label in early 2001, and has since been out-of-print.
The five songs feature the band at its hardest sounding, with frontman Aaron Weiss screaming instead of the singing-speaking hybrid he is known for today. Two tracks ("I Never Said That I Was Brave" and "We Know Who Our Enemies Are") were later re-recorded for the band's subsequent album, [A to B] Life; the sequel to "Four Word Letter" appears on Catch for Us the Foxes.

Song notes
- "I Never Said That I Was Brave" opens with the lyrics "You might sleep, but you'll never dream", which are from "Suffer Little Children" by The Smiths. (The song title "Suffer Little Children" is, in turn, taken from a Bible verse Matthew 19:14.)[1]
- "I never said that I was brave" is also a lyric from Leonard Cohen's "So Long, Marianne" off Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967).
- "We Know Who Our Enemies Are" comprise lyrics taken from the song "Oh Comely" by Neutral Milk Hotel.
- Two Fugazi lyrics are referenced. In "Flamethrower" Weiss sings "promises, promises, promises, words" which is a reference to the Fugazi song "Promises." In "We Know Who Our Enemies Are" the lyric "here comes the kiss-off" is a reference to the Fugazi song "Dear Justice Letter."
