History

The 18 April 1920, a crowd of 50 people gathered to form a sports club in Vaxholm. At first they were i part of IFK Stockholm but in August 1921 they became an independent part of IFK. In 1984 they changed their namn to "Vaxholm/KA 1 IF" after a tie-up with "Vaxholms Kustartilleriregementes IF" but 1989 they changed back. They have had several different kinds of sports during the years:Skiing, bandy, table-tennis, ice hockey and football along with a couple of other sports. Now they only play football. IFK Vaxholm has almost 650 members and they are the biggest sports club in Vaxholm.

In the past 25 years, since 1989, they've only been relegated 1 time, this happened in 1998. The season of 1982 the city of Vaxholm had 3 different teams, Resarö IF, IFK Vaxholm and Vaxholms Kustartilleriregementes IF. These 3 teams happened to play in the same division in 1982, division 8 Stockholm, and at the end of the season Resarö IF got promoted with only 1 more point than IFK Vaxholm. Vaxholms Kustartilleriregementes IF finished in 5:th place. This was the last year that more than 2 Vaxholm teams ever played toghether in the same division. Both Vaxholms Kustartilleriregementes IF and Resarö IF played their last season in 1984.

Their biggest rivals is Viggbyholms IK and their games has always been full of emotions. In the past 8 years Viggbyholms IK and IFK Vaxholm have played 14 games against each other, Viggbyholms IK won 6, IFK Vaxholm won 4 and the rest (4) of the games have ended with a draw. And with a total of 63 yellow and 6 red cards given, that is an average of 5 cards per game, the numbers speaks for itself.

In 1974 the first, and only so far, IFK Vaxholm team made it to the "S:t Erikscupen" final. Sadly the girls lost VS Rågsveds IF with 5-0.

IFK Vaxholms home ground, Vaxö IP, was founded in 1943 and since 1988 the ground have had artificial grass. Sometime in the beginning of the 21st century IFK Vaxholm recorded a song that they often play before their home matches. You can listen to it here!

According to Vaxholms website is Jesper Winzerling the best goalscorer in IFK Vaxholm history, 78 goals in 79 games. This statistiks haven't been updated since 2007.
