Hyūga (日向市 Hyūga-shi) is a city located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on April 1, 1951.
As of February 2014, the city has an estimated population of 63,676 and a population density of 189 persons per km². The total area is 336.29 km².
On February 25, 2006, the town of Tōgō (from Higashiusuki District) was merged into Hyūga.
Hyūga is a port city known for the production of Go stones and for beaches, many of which are popular surfing surfing spots

Region
Facing the Hyuga Sea, the city has a mild climate with lots of precipitation, and has long sunlight hours compared to other regions of Japan. Much like other places in Miyazaki Prefecture, Hyuga tends to have frequent typhoons. Hososhima Port in Hyuga has also served as a gateway to the rest of the prefecture since olden times. The city is also well known within Miyazaki as an industrial center.

- Mimitsu area (美々津 Mimitsu-chiku): This area has been designated a national important preservation district for groups of historic buildings, and much of the 19th-century atmosphere, including traditional buildings, earthen walls, and stone pavements, remains.[1]

Railway Lines
Hyuga has several stops on the Nippo Main Line, a line run by Japan Railways which serves eastern and southern Kyushu. Has access to other parts of Miyazaki Prefecture, and other areas of Kyushu as far as Kagoshima and Fukuoka.
Stops on the Nippo Main Line: Hyuga-shi Station, Zaikouji Station, Minami-Hyuga Station, Mimitsu Station
Bus
Miyazaki Kotsu – Serves Hyuga and nearby areas. Has local routes, as well as routes connecting to nearby Nobeoka (via Kadogawa Town), as well as routes from Hyuga to Misato Town and Shiba Village.
Puratto Bus: A community bus service that runs through downtown Hyuga.
Hakko Liner – An express bus service connecting Hyuga and northern Miyazaki to Fukuoka.
