Hussein Barghouti
Jamil Hussein Barghouti (1954 – May 1, 2002, Arabic: حسين جميل برغوثي) was a Palestinian poet born in the village of Kobar in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate. Barghouti died on May 1, 2002 in Ramallah. After graduating with a B.A. in English literature from Birzeit University in 1983, he studied in Budapest, Hungary. He then went on to obtain both his M.A. (1987) and Ph.D. (1992) in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington. Barghouti held many cultural and academic posts in his career. From 1984–1997, he was a university lecturer at Birzeit University, after which he taught at Al-Quds University until 2000.
