Hurst and Blackett

Hurst and Blackett was a publisher co-founded in 1812 by John Blackett (1785-1832), the son of a London shipbuilder. The business flourished after taking over the business of the long established publisher Henry Colburn and continued to do so under John's son, Henry Blackett (1825-1871), four of whose sons became publishers.[1] Hurst and Blackett were located on Great Marlborough Street, and later at Paternoster House, Paternoster Row, London and had offices in New York and Melbourne. They were taken over by Hutchinson, which later became part of Random House.[2]
