Hurkisondas Hospital
Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre (www.rfhhospital.org) is located in Girgaon, Mumbai, India. Reliance Foundation joined the management of Sir Hurkisondas Nurrotumdas Hospital with the commitment to restore the hospital to its erstwhile glory by re-structuring the hospital services and setting up state-of-the-art technology in the field of healthcare.
From its physical design to its daily functioning, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre is "Patient and Family Centric". All the rooms in this 345-bed, multi-specialty tertiary care hospital have direct sunlight – a very important aspect of patient care, and in keeping with our directive: Respect for Life.
H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital offers tertiary level healthcare facilities that include cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neurology and neuro-surgery, oncology, urology, nephrology, paediatric and neonatal surgery, gastroenterology, micro-ear surgery, retinal surgery and other services. Over 258 consultants in various areas of specialization drive and manage the activities. They are assisted by a staff of 1,000, including paramedical and other support. The centre also provides free and subsidised out-patient and in-patient treatment to the needy.
Renovation and addition
In March 2012 the hospital closed for renovations.[1]
The 1925-built 7-floor building was renovated by California-based firm, TTG Corporation[2]
A 22-story building behind the 1925 building was also renovated.[3]
Both buildings were re-opened on 25 Oct 2014 by the PM of India, Narendra Modi.[4]
The Tower is a newly constructed 19-floor building, housing Emergency Medical Services, the Out-Patient Department, In-Patient Services, Diagnostics, Operation Theatre Complex, Executive Health Check, and separate floors for Day Care, and Woman & Child Health. We have an entire floor for free and subsidised in-patient beds. Located across two floors, the Intensive Critical Care Unit (ICU) has beds configured to the single-room concept. There are Isolation Rooms on each floor.
Restored to its old world charm, The Heritage Building has OPD facilities for ENT, Neuro Sciences, Medical Services, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dental, and Paediatrics, along with excellent Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy facilities. Admission and Billing Services, and a fully vegetarian Visitors’ Cafeteria are also located here.
Kapol Niwas building has advanced Laboratory Services and a Blood Bank, Convention Centre, administrative offices, doctors’ dining room, library, and other employee facilities.
1 State-of-the-Art Planning, Design, Architecture and Infrastructure: This 800,000 sq.ft hospital conforms to AIA design standards, ASHARE for HVAC, NFPA for Medical Gases, the American Disability Act, AERB for Radiation & Nuclear Medicine, and the Drug Controller of India for the Blood Bank.
2 Cutting-Edge Technology, Equipment, and Resources: The OT Complex is truly ‘modular’, built to manage infection, increase productivity, and adapt to future technology changes. Emergency Medical Services examines and treats patients all in one place. Imaging modalities reduce radiation doses. The CT scan is Asia’s first, and the world’s fifth. India’s first Pneumatic Tube system transports medicines and materials, while separate, parallel lines carry Bio-Medical Wastes.
3 High-Quality Care with No Differentiation in Service: Clinical care across the hospital is standardised, and transcends socio-economic status. We are Mumbai’s first hospital to offer self-contained rooms (toilets, showers, rest areas for relatives) to indigent and subsidised patients.
4 Scalable, Multi-Use In-Patient and Isolation Rooms: The In-Patient rooms are designed with the capability to convert to a single-room step-down ICU. Dedicated Isolation Rooms have been planned across in-patient floors to accommodate patients with special requirements.
5 Fully Digitised, Instant Access to Patient Medical Records: The seamless integration of all our radiology equipment, HIS (Hospital Information Systems) and the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) ensures real-time transfer of data and reports across hospital systems.
6 National and International Green Building Conformance: The Hospital harvests rainwater, re-uses water for flushing after STP treatment, generates hot water from waste heat and runs energy-saving devices. This is the first hospital to introduce mega AHUs and is ready to acquire the LEED Gold-rated Green Building Standard.
