Hunter House Museum, East Kilbride.

Hunter House Museum was a museum in Calderwood, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Hunter House is the original Long Calderwood Farm and may be the oldest extant building in East Kilbride.

The museum has, unfortunately, had to close due to funding cuts in South Lanarkshire and lack of interest. The artefacts which were within the museum have been removed for safekeeping.

The building is currently owned by Calderwood Baptist Church who were already on the adjacent property. The church is currently using the building for a multitude of purposes (including a community cafe run by volunteers) to benefit the community of Calderwood and East Kilbride as a whole.

The museum contained exhibits relating to the medical pioneers and brothers, William Hunter (1718–1783) and John Hunter (1728–1793). The house was their birthplace and childhood home.[1] The museum also covered the local history of East Kilbride.[2]

William Hunter's main collection can be found at the Hunterian Museum of Glasgow University. John Hunter's main collection is at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, England.[3]
