Hunter Bishop (born September 5, 1987) is an American professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with Slovenian club, HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL).

Playing career

Prior to turning professional, Bishop attended Ohio State University where he played two seasons of college hockey with the NCAA Division I Ohio State Buckeyes men's ice hockey team. He briefly played with the University of North Dakota in his freshman year before deciding to return to juniors prior.

On March 18, 2010, the Montreal Canadiens signed Bishop as a free agent to a two-year entry level contract[1] He then joined American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs for the end of the 2009–10 season on an amateur try-out contract.

In his first full professional season, Bishop began with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL before he was recalled and remained with the Bulldogs for the remainder of the 2010–11 season, scoring 8 points in 34 games. Leading into the second year of his contract with the Canadiens, Bishop was injured in a pre-season NHL exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres and subsequently was ruled out for the entire 2011–12 campaign. Despite this fact, Bishop remained to have close ties with the Bulldogs and served primarily as a community relations representative.[2]

A free agent encroaching the 2012–13 season and looking to make a return from injury, Bishop signed a one-year contract in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays on October 1, 2012.[3] Enjoying his most productive season since turning professional and whilst leading the Stingrays in goals, Bishop was loaned to the AHL on a professional try-out contract with the Lake Erie Monsters on January 8, 2013.[4] After three scoreless games with the Monsters he was returned to the Stingrays. Also was called up with Rochester AHL for one game.

On August 21, 2013, Bishop secured an AHL contract, signing a one-year contract to continue with the Manchester Monarchs.[5]

After his first full season in the AHL with the Monarchs, Bishop opted to sign abroad in agreeing to a one-year contract with Slovenian club, HDD Olimpija Ljubljana of the EBEL on August 9, 2014.[6]
