The Hun Sen Cup is the main football knockout tournament in Cambodia.

History

The 1st Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Pedey Decho Hun Sen Cup was organized in 2007. Twenty eight teams from most of the cities and provinces in the country participated. There were two stages - group and knock out. Sixteen teams which qualified from the group stage played in the knock out stage until the finals. Khemara Keila was the Champion and Nagacorp FC was the runner-up.

Having been elected as President of the Football Federation of Cambodia in late 2006, H.E. Lt. Gen. Sao Sokha, who is also the Commander of the Cambodian National Gendarmeries, has initiated a football development programme consisting of grassroots education of coaches and referees, and competitions. Besides youth competitions of certain levels, Samdech Hun Sen Cup and Cambodian National League (CPL) are the highest football competitions that the Football Federation of Cambodia organize every year.

The 2nd Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Pedey Decho Hun Sen Cup 2008 has been completed. The same numbers of teams participated, and the competition format was not changed. Phnom Penh Empire was the Champion and FC Royal Sword was the runner-up.

A live match was broadcast every Saturday afternoon on TV3. The average number of spectators was 5,000 match day.

The Competition has been sponsored by H.E. Kep Chutema, Mayor of Phnom Penh and by other local sponsors. The Mayor has declared that he will sponsor the Cup competition every year.
