Humphrey School of Public Affairs
The Humphrey School of Public Affairs (also called the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Policy & Affairs, formerly known as the Humphrey Institute) is a public policy and public administration graduate school located at the University of Minnesota, and ranks among the top 15 professional schools of public affairs at public universities in the country.[1] The school is named after Hubert H. Humphrey, former Vice President of the United States and Presidential candidate. The School's primary campus is located on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota, which is also home to other top-ranking schools including the University of Minnesota Law School and Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, MN.
The Humphrey School program concentration in nonprofit management ranks third in the United States.[2] The Humphrey School is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration NASPAA.[3]
History
The University of Minnesota's graduate program for public administration was founded in 1938 and located on the East Bank of campus. It achieved autonomy as a graduate school within the University in 1968. In 1977, the school was renamed to recognize and honor former Vice President Humphrey. [4] In 2011, the Humphrey Institute was officially renamed the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. [5]
Degree programs and academics
Degrees offered at the Humphrey School include: Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.), Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP), Master of Science in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (MS-STEP), Master of Development Practice (MDP), Mid-career Master of Public Affairs (MPA), and Ph.D in Applied Economics.
The Humphrey School is organized into six policy areas: Global Policy, Politics and Governance, Public and Nonprofit Leadership, Regional Planning and Policy, Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy, and Social Policy.
- Master of Public Policy (MPP) (with degree concentrations in Advanced Policy Analysis Methods, Economic and Community Development, Global Public Policy, Human Rights, Politics and Governance, Public Finance and Budgeting, Public and Nonprofit Leadership Management, Science Technology and Environmental Policy, Social Policy, and Gender Public Policy.)
- Mid-career Master of Public Affairs (MPA)
- Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP)
- Master of Science in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (MS-STEP)
- Master of Development Practice (MDP)
- Ph.D. in Applied Economics (with an emphasis in policy analysis)
- Ph.D in Public Policy
- Dual degrees are offered with the Carlson School of Management (M.B.A.), University of Minnesota Law School (Juris Doctor), Social Work (M.S.W.), University of Minnesota School Public Health (Master of Public Health) and the departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (Master of Landscape Architecture) and Civil Engineering (Master of Science in Civil Engineering)
