Hume Central Secondary College (also referred to as HCSC) is a co-educational public government school in the northern suburb of Broadmeadows, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Hume Central Secondary College was established with the Broadmeadows Schools Regeneration Project.^[1] Three secondary colleges in the area merged to create Hume Central Secondary College: Hillcrest Secondary College, Broadmeadows Secondary College and Erinbank Secondary College. The two new junior campuses are now referred to as Dimboola Road Campus and Blair Street Campus. The Senior Town Park Campus was completed in 2011.

History

Hume Central Secondary College is a school in the suburb of Broadmeadows, Victoria. Hume Central Secondary College is the result of a merging of 3 secondary colleges in the area (Hillcrest Secondary College, Erinbank Secondary College & Broadmeadows Secondary College) to form one entity.

Mission statement

The Hume Central Secondary College website states that 'Our College vision is to develop and encourage in our students a love of lifelong learning while equipping them with the skills, qualifications and personal attributes they need for a purposeful and fulfilling life beyond school'.^[2]

Principal structure

David Russell, Irene Iliadis and Karen Anderson are the campus principals responsible for the day-to-day operation of Blair Street, Town Park Senior and Dimboola Road campuses respectively. The school has three assistant principals: Vivienne Caravas, Lisa Robinson and Kate McArthur.

Glenn Proctor is the College's executive principal, appointed in 2008. He has over 30 years teaching experience including 11 years spent as principal of the high-performing Mount Waverley Secondary College, which consistently places in the state’s top 10 percent of government schools.^[3] Mount Waverley, like Hume Central, is a multi-campus college with similar demographics to Broadmeadows.

Curriculum

Years 7-12

The senior program is built around skills, interests and career pathways. The curriculum is broader and more specialised than Years 7-9 and includes mathematics methods, specialist mathematics, physics, psychology, business management, studio arts, media studies, historical studies, health and human development and legal studies.

Campuses

Blair Street Campus

The junior campus opened in 2009. The open-plan design of the buildings creates spaces that are flexible.^[3] A cafeteria is located in the central building. The Blair Street Junior campus shares its site with the Broadmeadows Primary School and the English Language Centre, which caters for Years 7-10 students who have recently arrived in Australia. The campus has won several awards for its progressive and environmentally friendly design.

Dimboola Road Campus

Hume Central Secondary College's Dimboola Road Campus was built on the former Hillcrest Secondary College site. The Dimboola Road Junior campus shares its site with Broadmeadows Valley Primary School. This campus was officially opened by the former Premier John Brumby in 2010. The junior campus has been operational since 2009 with new facilities. The new design sees students work in self-contained year level learning communities, which are open plan with flexible spaces that can be adapted for different types of learning activities.

Town Park Campus

Hume Central Secondary College's Town Park Campus is a senior secondary campus catering for Year 10–12 students. The senior campus building is designed to cater for peak enrollments of 675 students. The Senior Campus includes 87 car parking spaces, an access road linking the school to an extension of the newly named Tanderrum Way and the campus is integrated with landscaping and pathway connections.^[4] The campus is close to Kangan Batman TAFE which allows students to complete TAFE courses in VET.
