Critical Reception

Kumar's rendition in the song was panned by music critics.

The song received mixed to negative response from music critics, most of the reviewers criticizing the vocals by Tulsi Kumar and appraising the lyrics by Irshad Kamil

Rajiv Vijayakar of Bollywood Hungama calling the song "Jeet's best work", wrote: "If GenX has identified in a huge way to the sentiments in it, it proves that perhaps idealistic and selfless love exists even in this era!".[19] Rafat from Glamsham, calling the song "one of the finest love duets of the year", opined: "It showcases Tulsi Kumar's (along with Arijit Singh) singing prowess to the hilt, and at times she sounds and sings like Anuradha Paudwal, may be on purpose". He further aapraised the lyrics of the song; "Irshad Kamil's lyrics are outstanding and convey the strong feelings of the protagonists".[20]

Reviewers of The Times of India felt the romantic track's composition could have been better.[21] Writing for Bollywood Spice, Bodrul Chaudhury thought the song is "a catchy tune which will most likely grab your ear’s attention". However, he criticized Tulsi Kumar's vocals in the song calling it "slightly unconventional".[22] An average reaction was shown towards the song by Shivi from Koimoi who stated; "Taking one back to 90s, it is again just fair".[23]

Atta Khan of Planet Bollywood panned the overall song commenting; "It suffers from wrong choice of singer named Tulsi Kumar who fails to bring the charm required for such song and also it sounds like its being composed years before as the arrangements are outdated with the lyrics being clichéd. The 2nd antara brings Arijit Singh who tries to do some damage control but to no avail as the track lacks freshness and repeat value".[24] Similar sentiments were echoed by critics of Bollymeaning.com, adding that "If you bear with [Tulsi Kumar's] not-bad-just-could-be-much-much-much-better singing for more than half the song, you listen to Arijit too".[25] Shresht Poddar of High on Score also reviewed the song in a similar pattern who thought "Barring Irshad Kamil’s poetic lyrics, none of the other elements worked in favor of this track. Arijit Singh sounded repetitive and Tulsi Kumar sounded like a shrill whistle".[26]
