Paul Joseph Hugh McDermott (born in Queensland) is an Australian politician who was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Prospect for the Australian Labor Party at the 2015 New South Wales state election.

Political career

McDermott was the Labor's sixth New South Wales candidate on the ballot for the Senate at the 2010 federal election. Four years later in October 2014, McDermott defeated the former member for Smithfield Ninos Khoshaba in a preselection ballot for the newly created seat of Prospect 76 votes to 23.[3]

Personal life

McDermott is married to Bettina McMahon and together they have two children. He previously served in the Australian Army earning the Australian Defence Medal in 2009. He then worked as a barrister and as the Director of Financial Crime Programs at the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security, Charles Sturt University.[4]
