"How Love Was True" is a song released by the Bee Gees on their debut album The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs. It was written by Barry Gibb and produced by Bill Shepherd. Lead vocals by Robin Gibb, with harmony vocals done by Barry and Maurice Gibb.

The Gibb brothers sing harmony together on the following lines:[1]

Ooh. love was true yesterday/I love you every way/You could be mine if you tried/All that you do is tell me lies.

The song has a first verse, refrain and second verse and after that, the first verse was repeated again.[1] The song's style was so little close to the Beatles' 1963 single "This Boy". "How Love Was True" was also based on the Beatles' early harmony style such as "Ask Me Why" and "Misery" both songs was from the 1963 LP Please Please Me.[2] On the first and second verse, the chords were D and A7, on the refrain the chords were: G, F#m7, A7 and D.

"How Love Was True" was recorded around October 1965 at Festival Studio, Sydney along with four songs "I Was a Lover, A Leader of Men", "And the Children Laughing", "I Don't Think It's Funny" and "To Be or Not to Be".[3]
