Houmayoun Mahmoudi

Houmayoun Mahmoudi / Homayoun Mahmoudi (Persian: همایون محمودی ) born 1966 in Tehran, is a British/Iranian cartoonist, graphic artist and designer. He studied graphic design and art at the University of Tehran and graduated in animation from the Tarbiat Modares University.

Mahmoudi moved to the United Kingdom in 2004 and worked as a freelance artist. He is currently doing PhD research in art and design at Manchester Metropolitan University.^[1][2] He has won numerous international cartoon contests around the world since 1994 and has exhibited in many modern art exhibitions internationally. Skilled in minimal cartoon, he has his own technique of working on sandpaper, he also worked in other media. In 1998 Graphis magazine published Houmayoun's works^[3][4] and between 1999– 2006 he was working with the Ritzenhoff Design company as a member of their artist team.^[5]

• 1994: Winner of Cesar Marcorelli prize for peace poster design from Biennial of art in Tolentino, Italy.
• 1994: second prize of a poster design competition about our heritage in Tehran.
• 1995: 3rd place of UN art festival for designing a poster of our families in the world and the winner of UNFPA poster competition about women's equality.
• 1996: Special award for a cartoon contest from United nation about the pollution in the world.
• 1997: Winner of Sandro Carlesso prize from Marostica cartoon festival in Italy about Fashion and fashions.
• 1998: Second place of an International cartoon contest in Cuba for An anti nuclear war in the world.
• 1999: First place of anti addiction cartoon festival in Tehran.
• 1999: second place of anti war cartoon festival in Brazil.
• 2003: Second place of Biennial of cartoon in Tehran.
• 2006: Winner of Sandro Carlesso cartoon festival in Marostica (Italy) about the Dream.
• 2006: first winner of an international cartoon festival in Bursa (Turkey) about the Pollution.^[6]
• 2007: Special prize from an International cartoon festival in Poland about cold and heat.
• 2010: Special prize from a cartoon festival in Andromeda about Italy land.^[7]
• 2010: 3rd place of international cartoon festival(Nasreddin Hodja) in Turkey about the global warming^[8]
• 2011: Grand prize of international cartoon festival in Marostica (Italy) about the Internet.^[9]
• 2011: Second place of the biennial of cartoon festival in Tolentino (Italy) about art of the twentieth century.^[10]
• 2012: Special prize from an international cartoon festival in Tehran about the Productivity.^[11]
• 2012: Grand prize of an International cartoon festival Tehran about awakening.^[12]
• 2012: Third prize of an International cartoon festival in Belgium, the prize of the cultural council of Boechout.^[13]
• 2012 Honourable prize of International Return to Home cartoon contest in Tehran.
