Houara (Berber: ihuwwaren, Arabic: هوارة) is a large Berber tribe spread widely in North African and has some descendents in in the Levant, Spain and Sicily. Some traditions claim that its patriarch is called "Huwwar son of Origh son of Branis".[1]
Many smaller tribes, villages, and regions still bear this names in Berber countries today such as Algeria, Morocco, and Libya.
The most famous Berber, in modern times, bearing the name of the tribe and thought to be descended from it was the late Algerian Houari Boumediene, who the president of Algeria in 1977 and 1978.
