The Hotel Kirkwood is an historic building in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of H.L. Stevens & Company. Art Deco details are found in the building's massing, the sleek exterior geometrical detailing, and treatment of the cornice.[1] It was built in 1930 as a hotel, and is currently used as luxury apartments with three restaurants on the ground level as well as a community theatre. The Skywalk level of the building contains a restaurant, a barber shop and offices. The Des Moines Social Club also is currently housed in the former ballrooms. The building is 12 stories in height, and is located at 400 Walnut St.
