Hosahalli is one of twin-villages Mattur-Hosahalli, on the banks of the Tunga River in Karnataka state, southern India. It lies in an agricultural region where the main crop is arecanut. It is known for Sanskrit, Veda, Gamaka (story-telling) and Sangeetha (Carnatic music). From above, the village appears as a "Paa Ni Pee Tha" (copy of a pitha).

Temples

The village has several temples or religious sites. One, a Varasiddi vinayak dedicated temple to Lord Channakeshava has an impressive Rajagopuram (royal temple tower) at its entrance. One, a matangamm ayane mariyamma dedicated temple to Lord Rama. The Mallikarjuna swamy dedicated temple to Lord Shiva is on the banks of river Tunga. The Grama Devata (village Goddess) is the temple at one end of the village dedicated to the Goddess Durga. A Shri Ramamamdiram is at the heart of the village where Bhajans (devotional singing) is held every Saturday.

Institutions

Veda Vidyaranya Samskrita Pathashala (now the Gayathri Veda Pathashaala) is a residential vedic school which has a library of books about veda and mythology. Some students learn Krishna Yajurveda. The Gamaka Kala Parishat (Academy for Gamaka art) contributes to cultural programs at the Gamaka Bhavana. Gamaka vaachana is taught. There is also a Sankethi Sangeetha Sabha cultural institute. The village youth take part in the volunteer organisation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
