Sochitta Sal (born October 22, 1992), better known by her stage name Honey Cocaine, is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter.[1]

Early life

Honey was born in Ottawa, Ontario on October 22, 1992, and was raised in Maple, Ontario. She attended Maple High School She is of Cambodian descent, and was the only daughter born of three children. Her cousin is the Canadian poet Lisa Robertson. One of the first rappers she ever heard was Tupac. She began writing poetry at the age of 6, and then at age 11, she started hitting the studio. [2] She created the stagename "Honey Cocaine" as her metaphor, meaning "sweet and addicting". "Honey is the filling inside", while "Cocaine is the raw outside", in reference to both the drug, and to the manner that she wants people in general to view her style and her music.[2]

Career

Honey Cocaine was discovered by Tyga after making a YouTube video of herself doing a freestyle rap to one of his songs called Rack City. Then Tyga invited her on tour with him.[3] Shortly afterwards, she began to receive recognition with her debut collaboration "Heisman", featuring Tyga.[4] [5]

In early March 2012, she was shot while riding in a van, shortly after she and Tyga performed at a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Honey Cocaine, Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they drove away from the venue, which soon opened fire on their vehicle. However, a bullet only grazed her right arm, and she was treated and shortly released from the hospital.[6][7]

In late 2012, she featured on Tyga's Well Done 3 mixtape, which is the third installment of his Well Done series.[8][8][9][10]
