Home Is is a solo album released by Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, under the name J.D. Vernon. He was twenty when he released the album, and had written the songs from 1999 to 2001. This album was released seven years prior to Justin Vernon's creation of Bon Iver. Home Is was recorded while Vernon lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, before he had recorded with DeYarmond Edison. This is one of his very first releases, and very few copies of it were released. Some of the names of the tracks appear differently in the booklet of the album than on the back of the album. "Leave it Alone" appears as "Leave it Alone Blues" in the booklet, "May 27th, 1999 (5:23 a.m.)" appears as "May 26th, 1999 (May 27th 5:53 in the Morning)", and "Morning (a.m.)'" appears as simply "Morning.'" This song features Vernon's brother, Nate Vernon, as a rapper (who appears as I.D.E.A.)
