Hombal (Kannada: ಹೊಂಬಳ ) is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India.[1][2] It is located in the Gadag taluk of Gadag district in Karnataka.

Schooling

Hombal has three schools which consists of a boys school, a girls school and a co.ed high school. The schools are all government schools. They have some good grounds as well.There is one Shankarlinga High high school run by a private organization

Road system

The inner road system in Hombal is like any other rural city with kachha roads.The roads can certainly be improved to a good extent.

Occupation of people

The males are mostly involved in agriculture and heavily depend on rainfall for their yield. Hombal village has been the origin of famous people like BHARAT RATNA Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Poet Nadoj Channaveer Kanavi,Cricketer Sunil Joshi, Famous writer G B Joshi( Jadabharat ), Bharat Natyam Exponent Late Shankar Hombal (Bhopal).This is a village of intellectuals like Late Dr. G. S Kulkarni ( General Surgeon ) and Hindu ( Advaita ) scholars like Shankarbhat Agnihotri and Devarao Kulkarni

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Hombal had a population of 7860 with 3964 males and 3896 females.[1]

Shankaralinga Temple

Hombala is famous for the ancient Shankaralinga temple located in the village.The other important temples of Hombal are Neelakhant temple, Brahmachaitanya paduka temple and Durga temple.
