Hodbarrow Nature Reserve
Hodbarrow Nature Reserve is on the edge of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. The River Duddon flows through the Duddon Valley, rising in the mountains between Eskdale and Langdale, before flowing into the Irish Sea near Millom and Hodbarrow.
The RSPB reserve is the former iron ore mining area of Hodbarrow which is now flooded and surrounded by the sea wall on the outskirts of Millom.
Hodbarrow is renowned for large numbers of wildfowl during the winter, especially Teal, Widgeon, Coot, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, and occasionally Long-tailed Duck, Eider, Goosander, Pintail and Shoveler.
